EcoThermics is a small Research & Development group focused on the creation of high pressure, axial piston hydraulic pump technology in compressors for transcritical CO2 heat pump and comercial refrigeration applications. An EcoThermics CO2 compressor runs at 2000 psi, providing significant competitive advantage over current industry standards that operate at less than 500 psi. Our compressors provide an easily-installed, single stage, semi-hermetic system component with proprietary mechanical features to meet demanding reliability, durability, and serviceability expectations of HVAC system builders, distributors, and end users. Transcritical CO2 technology extends heat pump energy savings into high temperature lift applications without the environmental hazards and logistical costs of synthetic refrigerants, helping to increase the bottom line and leave the environment in a better place.
EcoThermics has developed prototypes for a wide variety of compressor sizes and capacities for a wide variety of applications including space heating, cooling, hot water heating and commercial refrigeration. We anticipate production of a complete family of compressors with capabilities as follows:
Capacity (displacement): 6.5 to 60.0 M3/hour (at 50 Hz)
Max. Heating: 12.5 to 116.0 kW (15 to 140 hp)
Max. Cooling: 8.7 to 80.3 kW (10 to 100 hp)
An initial research application was built and has been operating flawlessly in, and significantly lowering energy costs for, a commercial bakery for more than three years. Completed compressor development milestones, fundamental thermodynamics and this demonstration confirm that EcoThermics technology provides sufficient capacity for simultaneous heating and cooling at low energy cost - with a payback time of less than three years in this case.
EcoThermics holds a variety of patents regarding our CO2 compressor technologies as wel as several other complimentary features which enable significant, unique advantages in the industry.
Case Study Results
A demonstration heat pump system built by EcoThermics has been operating flawlessly in, and significantly lowering energy costs for, a commercial bakery for more than two years. Completed compressor development milestones, fundamental thermodynamics and this demonstration confirm that EcoThermics technology provides sufficient capacity for simultaneous heating and cooling at low energy cost – with a payback time of less than four years in this case.

We will continue to explore additional research and development opportunities to continuously improve our technologies and compressor designs. However, we do not intend to be an active manufacturer of CO2 compressors for commercial markets, and we are always looking for interested partners to bring our compressor technologies to the global marketplace.
